First operated in 1990, Brian Howorths' sprinter was designed as a people mover for the portable track events. After being increased to four cars ( 2 powered, 2 trailing ), the Sprinter is capable of carrying up to forty children in one trip. The end units can be fitted to any one of the four cars, making unloading and coupling together a very simple operation. Recently the unit has undergone a rebuild underneath, and now incorporates the prototypical braking systems of a sprung parking brake and straight running air brakes. The control panel has been rebuilt to mimic that of the prototype unit. Brian is currently working on automatic couplers for the unit, incorporating the electrical and pneumatic connections. |
